Golf De Roses, set in the province of Roses in Costa Brava, offers a superb summer short haul destination. The 2 hour flight from the UK to Gerona Airport is followed by just a 1 hour taxi ride or drive. The countryside in this region of Spain is stunning, picturesque cottages and farm houses are dotted around a lush and fertile rolling landscape. The coastline here is a mixture of rugged rocky outcrops and beautiful coves and bays, some busier than others.

Golf De Roses is a perfect destination for families with children of all ages as well as those travelling with non-windsurfing partners or friends. There is a massive amount to do here as well as it being a perfect kitesurf spot, such as mountain biking, snorkelling, sailing, horse riding and walking. There are also a good range of child care facilities on offer close to the kite centre.

Itinerary & Highlights

There is really only one place to kite in Golf De Roses and this is at the main spot where the Skyriders/ Club Mistral centre is based.

MAIN BAY The centre is based in the middle of a large bay and has clearly marked zones for windsurfing, kitesurf instruction and free kiting. The zones are not especially large in the mid summer months of July and August and care must be taken not to wander into the public beach area. If you are not under supervision of an instructor then it is best to head straight out from the small launch area and then stay about 50m from the beach where there is lots of space

There are two types of wind in this resort; the tramontana that blows in spring and autumn and the thermal wind of the mid summer months.

Tramontana: this is a strong and slightly gusty wind that comes from the north coming side on shore from the left. This is generally better for windsurfers and more proficient kiters and the average wind strength is around 25 knots. Thermal: during the summer months from June to September wind changes direction to a southerly side on shore wind from the right. The thermal wind is super consistent and perfect for beginner to intermediate windsurfers looking for practice. This clean wind makes tricks and general progression much easier and is a really joy to ride!

Golf De Roses has many different activities on offer for all ages, a perfect destination for all the family. This is a very active resort, everywhere you look you will see people jogging, mountain biking, race biking, swimming and more.

This area is also very famous for its 'skydiving' centre !! You must try this if you have the nerve !!!

Golf De Roses is an equally good windsurf destination; the Club Mistral windsurf centre is on site with all the latest 2005 North sails and Mistral boards plus a full range of courses.

Accommodation & Centre Details

WINDSURF BUNGALOWS
The high-class bungalow and camping ground La Ballena Alegre 2 is situated along the main windsurfing and kitesurfing beach with the Club Mistral centre on site.

LA PALMERA
A variety of villas and apartments (villas have a communal swimming pool) in a charming small medieval village with views over the main spot about 1 mile down the beach.

THE OLD FARMHOUSE
A charming country estate set in a quiet location approximately 3 km away from the beach and centre.

THE OLD WATERMILL
A few meters from the sea there is an old restored windmill that has been recently converted into a charming inn. This quiet place surrounded by applefields and big trees is very peaceful and you find time to relax here.

ST MARTI D`EMPURIES VILLAS
The Villas are located about 20 minute stroll to the Club Mistral Centre windsurf / Kitesurf centre and juts next to the charming St Marti d `Empuries with is cozy restaurant and beach.

VILACOLUM HOUSE
A small luxury, rural boutique hotel with only 14 rooms in the charming village of Vilacolum, just 15 minutes drive from the Windsurf & Kitesurf centre. It is said that even Cristopher Columbus once visited this ancient stone-masia in Vilacolum.
