Trip Highlights

Evolution Camp: Do you know the basics of kite flying, body dragging and getting up on the board? Are you ready to accelerate your kiteboarding learning curve and get over the “hump”? Are you looking to become a fully independent and self-sufficient kiteboarder? If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, the Evolution Camp is the perfect choice for you. Read on to find out why. We’re very proud to announce that Matt Nuzzo and Trip Forman were named among the “Top 10 Most Influential People in the History of Kiteboarding” by Kiteboarding Magazine. ”The more you kiteboard and the more you apply recently acquired skills, the better you will get.” -Trip Forman, Co-Founder of REAL Due to the bombardment of positive feedback from past students, REAL Kiteboarding continues to offer it’s extremely popular Evolution Camp for the 2009 season. Perfectly positioned between Zero to Hero and Joyride camps, Evolution is for riders who know the basics and takes them to the next level. In this camp, we’ll provide you with the formula for becoming an independent, fully self-sufficient rider!! Each day will include focused instruction to help you attain specific goals that will propel you up to this kiteboarding milestone. We’ll work on extending your rides for miles and miles to develop the muscle memory necessary to progress even further. After you’ve completed a few long downwind runs with our coaches closely critiquing your technique, riding comfortably in both directions will become second nature. Don’t forget a daily dose of wakeboarding and wakeskating to bump your boardriding level up to par. REAL coaches accompany all water riding on personal watercraft for “On the Fly” coaching, a technique pioneered and perfected by REAL over the past 7 years. Goals of the Camp: The Evolution Camp focus’s on solidifying the fundamental building blocks acquired in the Zero to Hero Camp to make riders independent and fully self-sufficient. It also focus’s on extending rides, long downwind runs, riding switch, gear knowledge, first turns, intermediate board riding techniques, staying upwind and more! The camp runs for six hours per day for three days and is taught by some of the best rider-coaches in the world. Full immersion in the sport with top level coaches will allow students to return to their home waters with confidence in their ability and a solid knowledge of the sport on and off the water. We’ll also give you a specific, customized plan on how to get to the next level so you can keep progressing!!

Itinerary

REAL prescription: This is the ultimate “Double Down” camp taken after the Zero to Hero. Take both camps, back to back, and go home a dedicated, confident rider with serious skills. Perfectly matched to the Cape Hatteras conditions, the downwind runs are the “ultimate adventure”. REAL strongly recommends purchase of the Evolution Instructional DVD to get a head start on your camp and to use as a reference when you return home.

Student to Coach Ratio: Two students per coach with one personal watercraft. Maximum camp size is six students. This allows the group to meet each morning and afternoon in a manageable size for group topics and then break up into self-sufficient “pods” on the water.

Minimum Required Ability: Riders need to know; the basics of kite control and theory, relaunching basics, how to bodydrag downwind, and a working knowledge of safety aspects of the sport.

Kite School Revolutionaries

As the inventors of REAL Kiteboarding’s kite camp, a destination-based learn-to-kite experience, Matt Nuzzo and Trip Forman have made kiting accessible to the masses since 2001. They made it easy enough even for Matt Lauer from the Today Show to learn how to kiteboard, and their school has taught the sport to over 32,000 others as well. Before REAL Kiteboarding, many instructors sent newbies on the water by themselves, sometimes with a waterproof walkie-talkie, if they were lucky. “We created ‘on-the-fly’ coaching to use personal watercraft as a teaching tool so instructors can be with students 100 percent of the time and make the experience as fun and as safe as possible,“ says Nuzzo. The approach earned REAL Outside magazine’s “Top 10 Adventure Camps in the World” distinction in 2004. Ever since, they’ve been helping turn an extreme sport into a mainstream activity.
