Established over 20 years ago, the Rene Egli centre has one of the most comprehensive stocks of Kiting kit that we have seen, on one of the most awesome locations to be found anywhere. The kite centre here has established Sotavento's reputation as an excellent kite spot and hosted the 2001 & 2002 Kite-World cup. This is an ideal spot for all levels. A periodically flooded lagoon area makes for a perfect practice and training area in safe, flat, waist high water a short stroll from the centre. For the upwind to advanced kiter a short hop over the sand bar there is a dedicated Kiting Zone on the open sea, where you start to feel the pull of the Sotavento wind for which it is so famous. The beach area here is phenomenal. Nothing will prepare you for your first view of the beach, which stretches as far as the eye can see in both directions, with a massive area for launching, landing and training on the beach.

For those that would like to use your own kite there is a small charge for the service package that covers storage, area supervision, use of centre facilities and rescue boat (Licence Step III required) - € 42 for 1 week / € 75 for 2 weeks.

Itinerary

The Rene Egli kite school has a number of VDWS (German Association of Windsurfing Schools) & IKO certified, multi lingual, instructors that adhere to tried and tested methods of instruction (including the buddy system for beginners which is highly endorsed here at Planet). VDWS certificate are recognised world wide including IKO. MAXIMUM 2 PUPILS PER INSTRUCTOR (except for beach Intro).

Just in front of the Pro Centre I there is the large lagoon that is flooded 2 weeks of the month, making for the perfect Kitesurfing Spot for beginners, with flat shallow water surrounded by a large expanse of sandy beach - just perfect !

When instruction is not possible in the lagoon lessons will take place in the open sea with a Jetski escort. In addition to the lessons there are special assistance packages for students who are not quite ready for the open sea: you can kite in the lagoon and an assistant of the Pro Centre Team will help you with launching and landing.

Accommodation Details

SOL GORRIONES (ALL INCLUSIVE)
The newly refurbished Sol Gorriones is the only hotel at the spot in Sotavento. It is a well run and good quality 4 star hotel with excellent facilities (as well as for families).

PLAYA ESMERALDA
The Playa Esmeralda is a high standard hotel located on Sotavento beach and a 20 minute walk from the Rene Egli Centre.

APARTMENT CASA BELLA
Apartment Mansa is a new, luxurious, detached residence located directly on the beach of Sotavento Costa Calma. Ideally situated 100 metres walk to the resort bars, restaurants and shops for dinner and drinks.

PARAISO APARTMENTS
How they got permission to build this property in a National Park area is a mystery but they did it and what a spot!
